A Train To Catch
Saturday, August 2nd, 2008“Midnight Meat Train” was always one of my favorite Clive Barker tales, and we certainly didn’t do it justice in Tapping The Vein. Which is why I’m so thrilled with the movie version, now on a sparse 100 screens.
I went out to Palm Springs to catch a $1.50 matinee, and I was certainly not disappointed. Slick, gruesome, ethereal. Not quite as heavy on the “cities feed on their inhabitants” theme as I would’ve liked, but it’s still there.
The sad tale of Lionsgate’s abandonment of the film can be found on Shock Till You Drop. Apparently Lionsgate prefers their gore sans subtext, plot, characterization — all the things that elevate horror from simple SawHostel porn to, dare we say, art.
